SGS announces Michael P. Aronson Scholarship/Travel Award

Dr. Michael P. Aronson was a Society of Gynecologic Surgeons Distinguished Surgeon, expert vaginal surgeon, and educator. He was extremely passionate about surgical education. In his honor, the Michael P. Aronson Fund was established in 2014 to continue excellence in postgraduate education in gynecologic surgery.

Through this fund, the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons is pleased to provide an opportunity for one faculty member in good standing of a resident teaching institution to participate in the SGS Annual Course in Advanced Gynecologic Surgery in La Jolla, CA on December 1 - 4, 2021The candidate will receive reimbursement for coach airfare (up to $500), hotel and registration for the course (including the vaginal hysterectomy hands on lab being offered on the afternoon of December 4. The award recipient does not need to be an SGS member but must be available to attend the entire course. The goals for the postgraduate course are:

        • Provide hands-on training for vaginal hysterectomy;
        • Encourage knowledge of, and adherence to, optimal benign gynecology surgical techniques
        • Increase utilization of vaginal hysterectomy as the primary approach to hysterectomy 

The target audience for this scholarship includes:

        • Faculty members in good standing seeking advanced vaginal and laparoscopic skills not previously received through fellowship training (Non-fellowship trained applicants are encouraged to apply). 
        • Must be a current faculty member of a residency training program (current fellows and residents are not eligible)
        • Applicants must practice in an environment where they can translate and apply newfound skills from the course to educating trainees and other faculty in the operating room.

Submission Requirements are:

        1. Brief description of why the candidate desires to attend the course
        2. Why the candidate is within the target audience of this scholarship
        3. Curriculum Vitae (limited to 5 pages)
        4. Letter of support (Division Director, Chair or other equivalent)
