CALL FOR NEW RESEARCH PROPOSALS!

DEADLINE TO SUBMIT HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO OCTOBER 19, 2020 (5 PM EST)
ANTICIPATED AWARD DATE NOVEMBER 30, 2020
PROGRESS REPORT DUE MARCH 1, 2021

Introduction
The Fellows Pelvic Research Network (FPRN®), a network established and operated by the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons (SGS), is an opportunity for fellows in gynecologic surgery to conduct multi-center research.  Fellows in all gynecologic specialty areas including but not limited to Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (FMIGS) and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI), are invited to submit a research proposal to the FPRN® for consideration by SGS and its members. A separate call for proposals was previously sent for Female Pelvic Medicine (FPMRS).

We are looking for feasible, high impact studies that address a gap in our current knowledge and utilize the multi-center nature of our network.  Projects should be hypothesis-driven and we encourage projects that would allow for further follow-up studies.  High preference will be given to study designs that can be completed in 1 to 2 years.  Studies that will be enhanced by multi-center data access and generation will be considered.

Eligibility Criteria and Criteria for Review
You must be a fellow in a gynecologic surgery field and be an Associate Member of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons (SGS) to apply.  Please click HERE in order to join today as an Associate Member for a $50 annual fee. This special discounted membership category during fellowship provides access to the FPRN® and all benefits of Active Membership except the right to vote, hold office or serve on committees.

The expectation is that fellow principle investigators (PIs) will complete all data collection during their fellowship, but writing and data analysis may occur after fellowship is completed.  Applications from senior fellows will be considered if they apply in conjunction with a junior fellow (co-PI) with a plan for the co-PI to carry on the project after the PI’s graduation.

Reviewers will consider the following criteria to assess merit:

  • Significance: Does the project address an important problem or critical barrier to progress in women’s health?
  • Investigators: Do the PI and collaborators have the expertise needed to conduct the project?
  • Innovation: Does the project challenge old concepts or address new questions?
  • Approach: Are the overall strategy, methodology, and analyses well-reasoned and appropriate to accomplish the specific aims?
  • Environment/Community: Does the fellow have commitment from the department and time to complete the project?

Budget: Study proposals should include a budget and statistical analysis plan for the study.  If you need statistical or study design help while preparing your proposal, please contact a member of the FPRN® Steering Committee:

Olga Muldoon: [email protected]
Jordan Klebanoff: [email protected]
Whitney Ross: [email protected]

If your study is selected, regular check-in conference calls will be scheduled with the PIs, their collaborators, and members of the FPRN® Steering Committee and Advisory Board.  A progress report will be required every 6 months from the award date.
