Mentorship for Career Development | Kristen Matteson, MD

Dr. Matteson is Research Director for the Brown/Women and Infants Hospital Women’s Reproductive Health Research (WRHR) Scholar Program. Following medical school and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Matteson completed the John Evrard Fellowship in Clinical Trials and Epidemiology at Brown/WIH and joined the faculty in the Division of Research where she participated as a scholar in the WRHR Program and completed an NICHD-funded K23 mentored career development award. Her research interests center on improving patient outcomes for women with gynecologic problems and she is a national expert on the management of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) and patient-reported outcome measures. Dr. Matteson developed and validated the Menstrual Bleeding Questionnaire (MBQ) and is currently completing a federally-funded clinical trial to compare relative effectiveness of levonorgestrel intrauterine system and combined oral contraceptives in improving menstrual bleeding-related quality of life among women with heavy menstrual bleeding. Nationally, Dr. Matteson currently serves as Chair of the Committee on Gynecologic Practice for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), Co-Chair of the ACOG Panel on Uterine Bleeding, and The Society for Gynecologic Surgeons Systematic Review Group. In addition her work as a clinical researcher, Dr. Matteson is an active teacher for medical students and residents and a mentor to junior faculty interested in research careers or careers as specialists in academic general obstetrics and gynecology.
