Course 2: Quality Improvement Bootcamp

Effective July 1, 2019 the common program requirements for residency program faculty will require at least annual faculty development in one of four categories. Get a headstart by attending the PG QI Bootcamp workshop on March 31st.

II.B.2.g) pursue faculty development designed to enhance their skills at least annually: (Core)
II.B.2.g).(1) as educators; (Core)
II.B.2.g).(2) in quality improvement and patient safety; (Core)
II.B.2.g).(3) in fostering their own and their residents’ well-being; and, (Core)
II.B.2.g).(4) in patient care based on their practice-based learning and improvement efforts. (Core)

This course will teach the approach of QI using the 7 steps method. The learners will bring a laptop, use an excel add-on program, and a web-based flowcharting/mind mapping program to learn some QI tools through examples and exercises. By the end of the session, the learner is prepared to start performing QI projects as scholarly activity. A minimal amount of pre-work including watch short videos, downloading a program trial of QI Macro and Microsoft Excel, and obtaining a free account to a web-based flowcharting program is required. Further information will be sent upon registration.

Course Objectives:

1) Perform QI projects as scholarly activity using IHI Model for Improvement and the Seven Steps Method
2) Use QI tools on an excel-based add-on program
3) Learn to flowchart and mind map using a web-based program
4) Align QI projects with organization goals and priorities using a logic model

Course Format:

8:00 AM - 9:00 AM | Perform QI projects as scholarly activity using IHI Model for Improvement and the Seven Steps Method

9:00 AM - 9:45 AM | Use QI tools on an excel-based add-on program

9:45 AM - 10:00 AM | BREAK

10:00 AM - 11:00 AM | Learn to flowchart and mind map using a web-based program

11:00 AM -11:45 AM | Align QI projects with organization goals and priorities using a logic model
