SGS President's Corner

As part of our mission statement to promote evidence-based education to gynecologic surgeons, we would like to announce to our members that the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL) has produced an intensive multi-part ‘Master Course’ webinar series on vaginal hysterectomy taught by prominent members of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons. The goal of this course is to provide gynecologists with an opportunity to renew and refresh their skills in vaginal hysterectomy, which as noted by ACOG, is associated with better patient outcomes and fewer complications than abdominal hysterectomy...read more

Authors may now submit abstracts and videos for the SGS 42nd Annual Scientific Meeting to be held April 10-13, 2016 in Palm Springs, California at the Renaissance Indian Wells.

SGS Annual Meeting Open to ALL Physicians

In an effort to better achieve its mission, SGS has opened its Annual Scientific Meeting to ALL physicians focusing on gynecologic surgery. An invitation from an SGS Active Member is not required to attend the meeting. The content and attendees have become more diverse over the last several years. We welcome Generalists, MIGS, ONC's and REI's to participate in one of the the best scientific meetings in the industry. Here are a few quotes from our meeting attendees.

Call For Roundtable Topics

The 2016 SGS Scientific Program Committee invites you to propose and volunteer to lead a roundtable discussion at the 42nd Annual Scientific Meeting to be held Sunday April 10 – 13, 2016 at the Renaissance Indian Wells, Palm Springs, California .

Proposals should be submitted here.

The deadline for submission is August 31, 2015 and selection will be made by September 30, 2015.

Roundtables will be held on Monday, April 11, 2016 between 5:30 pm and 6:30 pmWine and cheese will be served at each roundtable.

SGS 24th Annual Postgraduate Course - Tampa, FL

Customize your surgical learning experience at the SGS 24th Annual Postgraduate Course to be held on December 4-6, 2015 in Tampa, Florida at the CAMLS. The course includes three days of didactic lectures and two optional afternoon lab sessions. The two optional cadaveric lab sessions are laparoscopic techniques and vaginal surgery. The dry lab sessions include laparoscopic suturing and hysteroscopic skills. Participants are able to choose the afternoon lab sessions that allign with their own educational objectives.  HONOR YOUR MENTOR

SGS is a Society deeply rooted in the concept of mentorship and we were pleased to launch the Honor Your Mentor program at the SGS 2015 Annual Scientific Meeting in Orlando, FL. This program was developed as a way for SGS members and guests to recognize mentors who have shaped their careers, while also supporting and fostering the mission of SGS.

If you missed the chance to honor your mentor at the 2015 SGS Annual Meeting, you will get the opportunity to do so at the 2016 meeting.

Stay tuned for more information regarding this exciting SGS program as we get closer to the 2016 Annual Scientific Meeting.


SHARE - SGS Establishes Named Funds

SGS has establish a Fund Development Program (SHARE) to provide a way for Surgeons to Advance Research and Education in Gynecologic Surgery. The program allows for Named Funds once $25,000 is raised on behalf of the named individual. SGS currently has two named funds. The Michael P. Aronson Fund promotes continued excellence in surgical education and supports an annual scholarship to the SGS Winter Postgraduate Course. The Donald G. Gallup Fund will support the Distinguished Surgeon Award at SGS Annual Scientific Meetings. If you are interested in establishing a named fund please contact Nancy Frankel at [email protected].


 Michael P. Aronson Scholarship/Travel Award

The Society of Gynecologic Surgeons is pleased to provide an opportunity for one faculty member in good standing to participate in the SGS hands on cadaveric postgraduate course in Tampa, FL on December 4-6, 2015. The candidate will receive registration, coach airfare and hotel for three nights for the course including registration for the vaginal hysterectomy cadaveric lab offered on the afternoon of December 5.
