SGS President's Corner

Greetings! As President of the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons, it is my honor to invite you to join us at the 43rd Annual Scientific Meeting in San Antonio, TX from March 26-29, 2017. La Cantera Resort and Spa is situated atop one of the highest points in San Antonio with amazing views overlooking the Texas Hill Country. Dr. Rob Gutman and the SGS Program Committee have put together what is going to be an informative, exciting and educational program for the scientific meeting and postgraduate courses this year.

One of the most common things I hear about after every annual meeting is that “special feel” at SGS and the amazing opportunities to interact with mentors and some of the “giants” in gynecology. There is something truly unique about the members of SGS and their commitment to fostering the growth of other gynecologists. To highlight and build on this, the theme of our meeting this year is “Mentorship in Surgery, Education and Research”. Our Keynote and TeLinde Lecturers will discuss career development and mentorship at every stage, and surgical skills training...read more

John O. L. DeLancey Chairs New Pelvic Anatomy Group

SGS has grown from a small subset of interested surgeons to become a nationally recognized group of advocates for the education and mentoring of gynecologic surgery. In 2006 SGS established the Fellows Pelvic Network (FPRN)®. We have also initiated group discussions among all major organizations for better recognition and training for gynecologic surgery. Members of SGS should be proud of their membership and the accomplishments of the organization.

A new group has been established that will fill an essential but under recognized area of pelvic surgery. The Pelvic Anatomy Group, mentored by the long time champion of teaching and standardizing anatomical nomenclature, John O.L. DeLancey (SGS Past President 2003-4) has been established. The group currently has two active subgroups (nomenclature and 3D Imaging) and the members have been volunteering many hours of time over the last year. In honor of John DeLancey a fund has been established to support the efforts of this group (John O. L. DeLancey Pelvic Anatomy Fund). This fund will initially be used to underwrite material needs and future committee expenses. A presentation will be made at the SGS annual meeting in March that will outline the current accomplishments and the future goals for this group.

Donations can be made by check or credit card. If sending a check please make the check payable to Society of Gynecologic Surgeons and indicate on the check that it is for the John O.L. DeLancey fund and forward to:

SGS Annual Scientific Meeting Open to ALL Physicians

In an effort to better achieve its mission, SGS has opened its Annual Scientific Meeting to ALL physicians focusing on gynecologic surgery. An invitation from an SGS Active Member is not required to attend the meeting. The content and attendees have become more diverse over the last several years. We welcome Generalists, MIGS, ONC's and REI's to participate in one of the the best scientific meetings in the industry.

Registration is now OPEN. Early Bird Registration ends January 9th.

Become a Fellow Scholar - Application Deadline is 1/23/17

At the 2017 Society of Gynecologic Surgeons (SGS) Scientific Meeting March 26-29, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas, SGS is pleased to be continuing the Fellow Scholar program. The selected fellow(s) will be invited to attend the meeting (airfare, registration and hotel included). We anticipate that we will have 4-6 opportunities this year. The intention is to expose the fellows to a scientific meeting that they may not have had the opportunity to experience.

The meeting agenda also includes participation in the Fellows Pelvic Research Network (FPRN)® meeting on Monday afternoon March 27. The FPRN® was established in 2006 and is mentored by the SGS Research Committee composed of senior scientists. FPRN® was the first fellows’ multi-center research network devoted to gynecology. The purpose of the FPRN® is to enable fellows to work together cooperatively and conduct multi-center research projects.

There are four postgraduate courses on Sunday, March 26. Each "scholar" will be able to participate in at least one of these courses.

As a “scholar” the fellow will be recognized at the opening session and will be expected to tweet, post to Facebook, and/or blog regarding her/his experiences during the SGS Scientific Meeting. We will provide additional information to the selected scholars.

Please nominate a fellow(s) that would benefit from this experience and submit your letter of support, the fellow’s CV and his/her 250 word essay on why they would like to be an SGS Fellow Scholar entitled "What will I take from SGS and what will I give to SGS”. It is critical that the fellow includes information about his/her expertise with social media. Please click here to access the link to upload information and documents. All applications need to be received by January 23, 2017. Applications will be reviewed by the SGS Selection Committee and the fellows that are selected will receive an email with specific information about transportation and meeting information by January 30.
