SPRING 2015 SRG UPDATE
This year in Orlando the SGS Systematic Review Group (SRG) met for the ninth consecutive year. Our group’s membership has changed over the years, but our mission remains the same: To systematically review the important subjects and controversies in the field of gynecologic surgery and to produce evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. Our recent publications include a review of “Mesh Sacrocolpopexy Compared with Native Tissue Vaginal Repair” in the January issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology. This project was headed by Naz Siddiqui. Ike Rahn was the primary author of two articles generated from the SRG’s review of vaginal estrogen. The first, published in Obstetrics & Gynecology, focused on its use in the treatment of genitourinary syndrome of menopause and the second, on its use in women with pelvic floor disorders. The latter was published in the January edition of the International Urogynecology Journal.
In Orlando Adam Steinberg and Cedric Olivera presented the preliminary findings and clinical practice guidelines from their respective reviews of “Preemptive Analgesia for Postoperative Hysterectomy Pain Control” and “Non-antimuscarinic Treatments for Overactive Bladder Syndrome.” The clinical practice guidelines (CPG’s) from these reviews should be available on the SGS website shortly for public vetting from SGS members. The SGS-SRG is also in the process of submitting our review of “Management of Ovaries at the Time of Hysterectomy for Benign Indications” for publication. The CPG’s from this review were vetted in the Spring of 2014.
Two new projects were also launched at this year’s meeting. We will be reviewing the best evidence-based techniques and management choices to be employed at the time of vaginal hysterectomy, as well as, urinary tract infection after gynecologic surgery and pelvic reconstructive surgery. We look forward to presenting our findings to the members of the society at our 2016 meeting in Palm Springs.
